There is a great hypoallergenic, biodegradable laundry soap sold by http://www.costco.ca, I have been using it for 4 months now and I really like it. it is a powder but dissolves beautifully, they also have an oxygen brightener and I have stopped using bleach altogether.
What’s great about these as well is how little you use; they are sold in a nice sized metal tin for packing. you only need 1 TBSP of detergent for a regular sized load of laundry. One tin of detergent does 100 regular sized loads.
I imagine it would work great for this as I wash all my clothes in cold water and it dissolves no problem.

Excellent idea! I may try it with Dawn dish soap because I already use it as a laundry stain remover, and it’s biodegradable.

i used a bucket and plunger to do laundry for a family of 4 for about 6 months.
sit on the edge of the tub,
dirty clothes by the drain,
put the ones you have washed at the other end.
when you finish washing,
slide the pile to the other end & start rinsing.
start with the least soiled.
the water can be change as often as you need.

That’s a good point, LM. You wouldn’t want to do this with just any soap. Fortunately there are several environmentally friendly soaps available now.

I’m not so sure that dumping the soapy water into a garden or lawn would be environmentally friendly/ sustainable.

love this idea and it just may come to this as washing machines arn’t made like they use to…I can replace one about every 3-5 yrs grrrr thanks Julie
