Google Earth is pretty great as it stands, but I like where it’s going even better. And that place is Simsville, with a stop-off at Liberty City along the way.
The internet giant has released a map of New York City that’s astonishing in detail, combining satellite data with shots from its fleet of Google Streetview cars to generate a completely three-dimensional image of the city.
It’s great as a plaything, or even as a guide to getting around the Big Apple, but I’m having more fun dreaming up gaming applications for something like this. And don’t lie and try …

What the hell, I’ll play!
The Obama administration has sounded out Microsoft’s main man, CEO Steve Ballmer, on the possibility of the company producing a video game which would task players with balancing the US budget.
Not as fun as tearing up a desert nation looking for weapons of mass destruction, I agree, but it’s just as important.

According to an image that briefly appeared in the flash rotation on top of Blizzard’s online store, the Celestial Steed mount will soon be joining the World of Warcraft pet store as a purchasable in-game item. Update: They’re live!

Today, Apple revised its iPhone Developer Program License Agreement to effectively ban the use of the Flash-to-iPhone converter.
Throughout 2010, Steve Jobs and Apple made it very clear that they do not like Adobe. At all. They prominently left Flash off the iPad, instead promoting HTML5 at every opportunity.
For some time now, though, Adobe’s had a tool to circumvent Apple’s ban on Flash for the iPhone and iPad: the Adobe Creative Suite 5 Flash-to-iPhone converter, which would have allowed developers to create apps in Flash and then port them over into iPhone.
The new change to the iPhone Developer …
