Swype Gesture-Based Android Keyboard Now Available to All [Video]

Shared by Mystech

Since I know quite a few fans of Swype as well as folks that missed out on the last round of beta. Best text input for Android ever!

Android: Swype used to be available only to those who managed to luck into a fairly restricted beta. Now it’s open to anyone whose phone happens to meet the hardware requirements.

Head over to Swype’s site, register for the beta, and you should quickly receive an email (that you should open on your Android device) sending you to the beta download site. Once Swype is installed, you’ll be led through setting it up and enabling it on your phone—if that doesn’t work, press and hold on any input field, select “Input method,” then choose Swype.

Swype is one of the first things I've installed on any Android phone I'm testing. It's not perfect, and can be a little aggravating when it continually guesses the same word incorrectly, but as you add your odd words to the dictionary, Swype feels like a dictation secretary who watches your fingers for clues. Be sure to head into your Keyboard & Language settings to change up some key variables—namely a slider that decides how often Swype prompts you to choose from a list of words versus relying on your finger accuracy. With the latest version, and available on some Android builds, there's a built-in microphone button for enabling speech-to-text, so you get the best of both input worlds.

Swype is a free download for Android phones, with certain hardware restrictions. Give it a go and tell us what you think in the comments.
